This is an entry level Stormwater Field Maintenance Worker position at the Wastewater Facility. This position is responsible for semi-skilled work associated with the operation and maintenance of stormwater control measures (SCM), diversion chambers, flood control chambers, storm water overflow regulators, and collection system. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Streets Supervisor, or other CRW Management, as required.
Required experience:
Basic mechanical aptitude.
Basic knowledge and ability to understand instructions verbally and in writing.
Basic understanding of Stormwater Control Measures (SCM) function and maintenance in CRW system.
Basic landscaping knowledge of weeding, watering, pruning plants, mulching, and planting.
Basic knowledge of native plants, weeding, and trash removal.
Basic understanding of Capital Region Water Green Stormwater Infrastructure O&M Manual.
Knowledge of SCM functions and maintenance.
Basic understanding of the principles and operation of automatic flow regulating, sampling and flow recording equipment.
Basic understanding of the force mains, diversion chambers, flood control chambers, storm water overflow regulators, inlets and interceptor and collection systems with the ability to perform maintenance and repairs as well as preventive maintenance on related equipment under general supervision.
Basic knowledge and ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings, specifications, blueprints, and layouts as they relate to the sewer collection system.
Required skills:
An ability to adapt to situations involving repetitive duties and being alert with respect to dangers involved with sewer gases and other environmental hazards and traffic situations in work zones.
Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
Basic communications skills necessary for tactful and courteous public relations are required.
Ability to perform minor concrete repairs, including setting of forms.
Basic understanding and ability to operate sewer flushing, rodding, and vacuuming equipment under general supervision.
Basic understanding in the field of plumbing, as it relates to the sewer collection and conveyance system.
Basic knowledge and ability to perform record keeping manually and with computer software such as Microsoft Access and Excel and Cityworks work order system.
Ability to react quickly and appropriately to alarms and hazardous situations.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
A combination of skills, education and experience providing an equivalent background and a demonstrated ability to perform the duties and achieve certification as an operator of a wastewater/stormwater collection system.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License, Class C.
