As a pivotal member of our team, the Woods Boss will provide essential field support to youth and young adult conservation crews, ensuring adherence to organizational standards and specifications. This position emphasizes a commitment to environmental stewardship while fostering educational growth among participants in outdoor settings.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with project specifications and maintain safe, clean camp environments.
Provide technical project support, including trail maintenance, invasive species removal, and fuels reduction.
Manage recreational trips and oversee the resupply of crew food and equipment.
Interface with project sponsors and engage parents to enhance participant comfort and support.
Train, supervise, and coordinate field staff and crews, facilitating professional development opportunities.
Complete necessary administrative paperwork and manage field staff documentation.
Offer ongoing training and technical support to guarantee safe and productive project completion.
Support the repair and maintenance of tools and equipment, ensuring the operational readiness of all resources.
Respond to dynamic crew challenges by providing guidance and conflict resolution.
Required Skills
Demonstrated leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving aptitude coupled with exceptional communication capabilities.
Experience in managing and supervising outdoor projects effectively.
Proficient in operating hand tools and chainsaws, with a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical capability to perform demanding tasks, including backpacking and lifting heavy equipment.
Qualifications
Preferred background in outdoor recreation, environmental education, or forestry.
Relevant experience in youth leadership and managing outdoor projects.
Ability to work long hours in diverse weather conditions, demonstrating reliability and self-motivation.
Current certifications in wilderness first aid/CPR or willingness to obtain.

Daily rate of (115 for Young Adult and Community crews ()117 with current WFR or EMT certification).
Daily rate of (125 for Youth Crews ()127 with current WFR or EMT certification).
