Material Manager / Railcar Running Repair Agent Job Description
Job Summary:
The Material Manager / Railcar Running Repair Agent is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of materials required for railcar repairs. This role ensures that materials are available for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance while maintaining cost control and efficiency. The position also involves coordinating with repair teams to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with industry safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Material Management:
• Oversee the ordering, receipt, storage, and distribution of railcar repair materials.
• Maintain accurate inventory records using asset management software.
• Forecast material needs based on maintenance schedules and historical data.
• Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and budgetary constraints.
• Develop relationships with suppliers to secure cost-effective and timely deliveries.
Railcar Running Repair Support:
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure required materials are available for running repairs.
• Monitor repair processes and assist in identifying material-related inefficiencies.
• Support emergency and unscheduled repairs by expediting material procurement.
• Coordinate with logistics to ensure timely delivery of materials to field locations.
Compliance & Safety:
• Ensure all materials meet industry and regulatory standards (AAR, FRA, etc.).
• Implement proper handling and storage procedures for hazardous materials.
• Maintain records of material usage for audits and compliance reporting.
Cost Control & Efficiency:
• Track material costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.
• Minimize waste and surplus inventory through efficient material utilization.
• Work with vendors and procurement teams to negotiate competitive pricing.
Reporting & Documentation:
• Prepare reports on inventory levels, material usage, and budget performance.
• Maintain accurate repair logs and parts usage history.
• Support management in developing strategies to improve repair efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field is a plus.
• Experience:
• Experience in material management, procurement, or logistics in the rail industry preferred.
• Knowledge of railcar maintenance operations and repair procedures is an advantage.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with railcar parts, maintenance procedures, and repair documentation.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
