The Woods Boss plays a crucial role in delivering essential field support to youth and young adult conservation crews. This position is fundamental in ensuring that projects adhere to partner and NYC/ICC specifications, maintaining safe and organized camps, and providing an enriching educational experience. The Woods Boss will engage in various technical support activities, including trail maintenance, invasive species removal, and fuels reduction, requiring a commitment to living in the field during the work season.
Key Responsibilities
Provide training, supervision, and constructive feedback to field staff, promoting their professional growth.
Complete all necessary administrative paperwork and manage field staff documentation efficiently.
Oversee and support the performance of seasonal program staff and youth participants.
Facilitate conflict resolution and provide guidance to crew leaders in challenging situations.
Collaborate with crews on field projects on a weekly basis.
Organize and execute successful recreational activities for crews during weekends.
Maintain and manage tools and equipment, ensuring readiness for field operations.

Compensation And Benefits
(115 per day for Young Adult and Community crews (increasing to )117 with current WFR or EMT certification).
(125 per day for Youth Crews (increasing to )127 with current WFR or EMT certification).
Transportation, camping locations, and some meals will be provided during the field season.
This position primarily requires living and working outdoors in diverse weather conditions, contributing to a rewarding experience in the field.
